Final Heredity Project

For your final project in this unit, you will be conducting a heredity investigation of a family member. You must choose one family member (NOT yourself).
You will need to research what makes that person the way they are. You will be figuring out where their traits come from by examining your family history.
See the list below for different traits you may want to investigate. If you have other ideas, check with your teacher! If you are having trouble finding information on a family member, talk to your teacher and we will find another person you could investigate, such as a friend, or you can create an online tool describing the similarities and differences between DNA, genes, chromosomes, traits, and heredity.

In your project, you will need to include at least 5 of the following topics in the heredity explanation of your family member:
  • Eye color
  • Hair color
  • family.jpgHeight
  • Freckles
  • Smile
  • Nose
  • Ears (size, shape, attached earlobes/unattached earlobes)
  • Laugh
  • Colorblindness
  • Dimples
  • Shoe size/foot size
  • Taste of PTC
  • Left thumbed/right thumbed
  • Rolling tongue
  • Hair texture (naturally curly, coarse, etc.)
  • Hairline (widow's peak, etc.)
  • Hitchhiker's thumb
  • Short/long second toe
  • Vulcan sign
  • Other ideas of traits you want to examine? Talk to your teacher for approval.

The final product of your project must be created online. You may use any program you would like that you can work on at school. The only requirement is that you have to be able to record your voice along with visuals. Be sure to include pictures of some sort. These could be pictures of the person and their traits or free to use and share images you find online. Don't forget to site all of your sources!
